Challenge
After relocating to a new facility, Quantum Drones faced a range of production bottlenecks that threatened operational timelines. The site lacked essential in-house lab space, delaying validation and increasing reliance on external testing partners. Office and control areas were inadequate for engineering, quality control, and oversight roles. The absence of a small parts storage zone led to inefficiencies in inventory and fulfilment. At the same time, the team needed to fast-track operational readiness while progressing through Development Application and Building Approval stages — all without causing any disruption to live production already underway in adjacent areas.
Solution
A strategic site utilisation review pinpointed underused areas within the facility, enabling the formation of a dedicated build zone. Construction took place behind physical barriers with staged protocols to avoid impacting live production. The new modular layout introduced a fully enclosed laboratory, office and control spaces with clear visibility over the assembly floor, and an integrated small parts storage area near goods-in/goods-out. Services were carefully isolated — including HVAC, electrical, and comms pathways — to protect sensitive operations. Trotek also oversaw all planning approvals, securing DA and BA while aligning all designs with NCC and ISO cleanroom requirements.
Implementation
The project was completed on schedule, with no disruption to Quantum Drones’ live manufacturing activities. The new on-site test lab allowed the team to internalise quality control, accelerate R&D cycles, and remove dependency on external testing. The supervisory control room improved visibility over assembly lines, boosting response times and operational coordination. Modular office zones now accommodate engineering, admin, and project staff with room to scale. Small parts storage was fully integrated, significantly improving pick/pack efficiency and traceability. By aligning construction with live operations and approvals, the facility transitioned to full capability without compromising throughput.
